The SBER courses are all challenging with large gains and losses of elevation. The 100 mile is a "T" out-and back route and is mostly run on maintained dirt roads (21.60), jeep/ OHV route (38.78) and single track trails (5.32) with a portion of it utilizing paved roads (35.50). The 5.94 mile section of Paradise Road is the longest segment of paved surface; this section runs along and crosses the Santa Ynez River 6 times (the paved road itself goes through the river, but the maximum depth is between 3 and 6 inches only). The highest elevation point on the 100 mile course is Divide Peak, with an elevation of 4702’. Divide Peak is the highest elevation in the Santa Ynez Mountain Range, which back drops the city of Santa Barbara. The total elevation change in the 100-miler is 54,946’.
The 100k, 50 mile, and 50k divisions are out and back, with a challenging mix of route surfaces and elevation gain and loss. The 30k, 20k and 10k run entirely on single track trail utilizing the Aliso Nature Trail and Loop Trail.
The SBER is laid out to meet the strict criteria of the Santa Barbara District of the Los Padres National Forest Service. Our goal is to meet the highest of standards so we can continue to have our event on an annual basis.
The SBER event is operated under a special use permit with the Santa Barbara District of the Los Padres National Forest Service. This event is an equal opportunity provider.
